Backup utilities relieve us from copying data manually, when we need to create spare copies, in case we lose the originals. Even with their advanced capabilities or their flexible scheduling features, most backup programs are quite limited, especially if you compare them to KLS Backup 2013. It is capable of backing up much more than files from your local folders. In terms of backup source and destination, the software places a huge number of possibilities at your disposal. Add the fact that it allows you to set up different types of backup and synchronization jobs, schedule them, secure your backed up data and make other configurations and it is safe to say that KLS Backup 2013 provides a complete backup solution, for any kind of data.

The software comes in different editions, with different price tags. Besides that, a fully functional evaluation version is available for each KLS Backup 2013 edition. Regardless of your choice, you can run the program without any problems, on Windows 2000 and all later versions, up to Win 8 and on various Server editions. The installation package is 14 and a half MB and it takes less than a minute to install the software.

Inexperienced users may be intimidated by the layout of the main user interface or by the large number of options they will encounter when setting up a backup job, but the truth is that KLS Backup 2013 is quite easy to master. Creating your first backup or synchronization profile is sufficient to familiarize yourself with the program's controls. The main interface consists of several panels, which display created profiles, their source paths, backed up files and event logs.

Besides backup and synchronization profiles, you can also define cleanup tasks and profile groups. Profiles are created on a tabbed window. The available options displayed in this window are slightly different, depending on what type of profile you intend to create. The most obvious difference is the way you have to select the source and destination. If you wish to create a synchronization profile, you have to select two local or network folders or folders from removable devices. You can also choose a synchronization method, like simple, advanced or continuous. Additionally, you can choose one or more actions for each folder.

KLS Backup 2013 shines the most when it comes to creating a backup profile. The software allows you to choose from a vast range of sources. Besides local or LAN folders or FTP servers, you can also target Cloud folders, like Amazon S3, Windows Azure folders and others. Furthermore, you can target your Windows Media Player or iTunes library, SQL databases, mail clients, instant messengers, web browsers, development tools and much more. You also have many possibilities when selecting a destination. The program allows you to send your data to local or network folders, FTP servers, Cloud accounts, CDs or DVDs, ISO images and more.

Created profiles are displayed on the main interface, along with various statistics and Run buttons. When running a profile, the software will display the progress and other statistics on the same interface. If you create and run a continuous synchronization profile, you don't have to wait for a progress bar to fill up. The profile will run at all times and it will synchronize your files, in one or both directions, in real time. If you add a new file or delete an existing one, while the synchronization profile is running, the program will execute the same action automatically, in the corresponding folder.

Pros

KLS Backup 2013 can back up data from local or remote folders, from web browsers, mail clients and many other sources. It can perform normal, incremental or differential backup jobs and synchronize data in real time. It allows you to make numerous configurations and adjustments and the best part is that all the functions are easy to understand.

Cons

There are no serious issues to address. KLS Backup 2013 gives you the possibility of backing up any kind of data, regardless of format or location.
